Bernstein Node Bochum
The Bernstein Node Bochum was founded in 2025 and connects researchers from computer science, medicine, psychology and biology at the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). Its members have demonstrated leadership in key areas of computational neuroscience (CNS), a track record of successful collaborations, complementary expertise spanning theoretical and experimental approaches, and a strong commitment to advancing CNS research through collaborative initiatives.
The establishment of a Bernstein Node Bochum represents a strategic initiative to strengthen and advance CNS research at RUB, increase the visibility of RUB’s CNS research within the broader scientific community, and create formal channels for external researchers to engage with CNS researchers at RUB. It is characterized by the interdisciplinary network of the participating members, both in teaching and research.
The Bernstein Node Bochum is closely linked to the Institute of Neural Computation that was an independent research institute from 1989-2021 and was incorporated into the newly founded Faculty of Computer Science in 2021 and is affiliated with the Research Center for Theoretical and Integrative Neuroscience and Cognitive Science (THINK) that will be opened in 2026, as well as with the Research Department of Neuroscience.
