Bernstein Coordination Site (BCOS)
The Bernstein Coordination Site (BCOS) is your central contact for any information and questions about the Bernstein Network.
It supports the scientists of the Bernstein Network in their joint activities and serves as a link between the network partners.
Since September 2015, the Bernstein Coordination Site is a branch office of Forschungszentrum Jülich. The coordination site is located on the premises of the Bernstein Center Freiburg at the University of Freiburg.

Science Communication
Science in the context of the Bernstein Network not only represents cutting-edge research, it also touches upon current public debates. In turn, communication of scientific content and public relations are closely intertwined. Communication is thus important on several levels – internally as well as externally.
This is the basis upon which the network’s various communicative formats have evolved: our electronic newsletter – the Bernstein Bulletin, our own print products, the website as well as our social media representations.
Our Portfolio
- It is central to us to enhance the visibility of the excellent research and the diversity of topics in the Bernstein Network and making it accessible to a wider audience. Therefore, we present the research around computational neuroscience at public events, such as science fairs, science days or long nights of science.
- In this vein, we prepare scientific findings and publications separately in our press releases. In particular when it comes to establishing a link to everyday life, it is crucial to facilitating general access to the current state of research in neurological diseases or in the field of information and communication technologies.
- To get up close to the personalities of the network and their research, our print publications with scientists’ portraits, topical science reports and interviews are freely available on request.
- We actively reach out to our community through Bluesky, Mastodon, LinkedIn, and VIMEO and connect the topics of the Bernstein Network with other institutions and facilities.
Scientific Coordination
Since computational neuroscience is an interdisciplinary field of research, the scientists in the Bernstein Network Computational Neuroscience have a broad expertise and reveal a diverse spectrum of methods.
We offer a platform of scientific exchange for our members and the community across all career levels. We coordinate different formats and opportunities to make networking viable and keeping it attractive.
Our Portfolio
- The Bernstein Conference is one of the most renowned conferences in the field of computational neuroscience. Every year, we take care of the smooth running of the conference, thus providing the platform for scientists from all over the world to discuss the latest scientific findings.
To promote young scientists, we develop and organize a wide variety of workshops and seminars. Our formats provide early career scientists with many different opportunities for networking and further education. This includes travel grants and the Brains for Brains Young Researcher Award. - We represent the network on an international level and inform the scientific community about the Bernstein Network thus expanding its visibility.
- An interdisciplinary field such as computational neuroscience contributes to the continuous progress in technology and medicine. We are the contact for companies active in the fields of neurotechnology, Artificial Intelligence and data science.
- We inform scientists of all career levels about current job offers within the Bernstein Network, as well as about calls for third-party funding and scientific awards in the field of computational neuroscience.
