Bernstein Coordination Site (BCOS)
The Bernstein Coordination Site (BCOS) is the central point of contact for information and questions about the Bernstein Network. It supports the scientists of the Bernstein Network in their joint activities and serves as a link between the network partners.
Since September 2015, the Bernstein Coordination Site is a branch office of Forschungszentrum Jülich. The coordination site is located on the premises of the Bernstein Center Freiburg at the University of Freiburg.
Purpose of the Bernstein Coordination Site
- Interface between academia, industry, policymakers, and the broader public
- Internal networking and communication
- Corporate Identity and visibility of the network
- Central public relations and science communication activities
- Support for early-career researchers
- International representation, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy
- Organization of the Bernstein Conference
Scientific Coordination
The Bernstein Coordination Site supports the organization and continued development of the network. We create structures and formats for scientific exchange, collaboration, and support across all career stages.
Bernstein Conference
The annual Bernstein Conference is the network’s central platform for scientific exchange, networking, and the presentation of current research.
Early-career support
We support early-career researchers through exchange formats, travel grants, and programs such as the Brains for Brains Award.
Network representation
We represent the network in national and international contexts and strengthen its visibility within the scientific community.
Information and opportunities
We compile job postings, funding opportunities, awards, and events in the field of computational neuroscience.
Science Communication
Science within the Bernstein Network not only represents cutting-edge research, but also engages with current public debates. Communicating scientific topics and public outreach are therefore closely connected. Communication is important on multiple levels — both within the network and beyond.
Research across the network
Through our website and social media channels, we share scientific findings and publications from across the network.
The network and its members
Our publications provide insights into the work and people behind the network through portraits, feature articles, and interviews. Printed publications are available free of charge upon request.
Public outreach
We present research in computational neuroscience at public events such as science fairs, Science Days, and Long Nights of Science.
For our members
We regularly publish the Bernstein Bulletin and offer individual support and advice on communication activities.
Advocacy and Networking
The Bernstein Coordination Site strengthens the network’s connectivity and represents its interests towards key stakeholders in science, policy, and society. We are the central point of contact for inquiries to the Bernstein Network.
Community and network development
The network is continuously evolving. We foster exchange between sites and serve as a central point of contact for members.
Collaborations and partnerships
We maintain national and international collaborations with relevant initiatives and networks.
Knowledge and technology transfer
Computational neuroscience is an interdisciplinary field with relevance for technology and medicine. We act as a point of contact for companies in neurotechnology, artificial intelligence, and data science.
Advocacy and funding landscape
We represent the network’s interests and engage with funding bodies and policymakers.
